In celebration of Drift Awake's launch, and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am hosting a Surf Aid fundraiser for the people of Indonesia. Donations will help provide vital services such as Mother and Child health services and Malaria prevention in struggling areas of Indo.
Surfing, mindful living and generosity will be a large part of the Drift Awake's mission. After a recent journey to Bali, a small Indonesian island overrun by tourism, I was overwhelmed with desire to protect this sacred place and its tender-hearted people. As Bali's economy has grown in the past few decades, it is still common for Balinese people to work 9 hour days and take home around $6 US! Can you imagine? In addition to the poor economy, environmental factors are a huge concern, as the sudden rise in tourism and development has led to an influx of waste and proper sanitation/recycling programs have yet to be established.
Trying not to preach, but if we want to keep vacationing in beautiful exotic places like Bali, which of course we do, is it not our moral obligation to give back? And maybe earn some good karma in the process? We can start by supporting programs like SURFAID, whose mission is to help strengthen education, environmental and health care programs in struggling countries.
If your heart feels inclined to give, you are invited to donate to my fundraiser. It only takes a sec & any contribution, large or small, is welcome. Your karma and I thank you for your support.
Help me reach my goal of raising $500 by Nov. 30th.
